UFOs

Just before my son was born, I was working on a quilt for my daughter.
Here I had it all laid out on the bed, trying to decide just which colors would flow nicely into the others.

Sadly, I was placed on bedrest and I put it away.
Then, when my son was born, I became bizarrely paranoid about ironing with him in the room. What if there was a freak accident with the iron and he got burned? Well, certainly I can only quilt while he's sleeping then, right?
But laying out a whole quilt takes up a lot of space, and what if I accidentally make a mess? What if I loose a piece?
Well, maybe if I just work on it in parts while he's napping.
But he sleeps so much better if I nurse him down.... and then I want to lay there and cuddle.

You get the idea. The reasons compound.

Since then I've made more than 20 sock monkeys,

 bunnies,

bears,

and other creatures,

 upwards of 15 dolls,

 at least 2 purses,

one complicated hexagon quilt,

eight blankets,

three slings,

one pillowcase,

and a couple hats,

And some other odd projects of which I seem to lack photographs...

but I still have this UFO staring me down.

What sorts of projects do you have on hold, and what *really good reasons* are you using to convince yourself not to finish?

Review: Agoo Leg Huggers

Back in 2009 I fell in love with Agoo Leg Huggers.  Not the creepy way, but we do love them around here.  I wrote about it here.
This spring I had the opportunity to review a pair from the new spring line (the adorable Kick Back Leg Huggers), and I was more than excited.  So, with no more ado, let's cut to the cuteness.

They may be soccer-tastic, but he wanted to play music instead of with balls.

That said, he also thought climbing would be a great idea.

And sitting around and surveying his kingdom, you know, regular toddler stuff.

What I love about them:

They're long enough to cover his long toddler legs.
They're super soft.

They're made of sustainably harvested BAMBOO. According to their website "It is also hypoallergenic, and its organic, natural fiber properties make it non-irritating to even the most sensitive skin. Bamboo apparel also protects you from UV rays, naturally."

They're prefect for sunny yet windy days when it's *almost* shorts weather, but not quite.

Great for cool days when you need to cover those last few inches of baby leg for baby wearing with pants that ride up.

They protect those little knees from rug burn when they're crawling and rolling, scraping, and bumping around.

As I pointed out back in 2009-
"They keep my baby's legs warm. Even when it's fluffy change time. I don't know about you, but when I'm trying to change Snapdragon's diaper in the middle of the night, my goal is to avoid rousing him any more than absolutely necessary. Cold tends to be one of those "I'M AWAKE, WHAT DO YOU WANT!" sorta influences, and I try my best to avoid it."

What I would change about them:
Well, I think they need more non-pink and floral prints.  The selection feels a tiny bit skewed to the girly, but that's okay, because the neuter gendered prints are adorable.  I particularly like the stripes and animals.

I also think that the leg bands could do to accommodate a slightly chunkier thigh.  They fit my son quite comfortably, but he's skinny, and I wonder if they'd be quite as comfy on chunky thighs. Perhaps I should send a pair to his super-chunky thighed cousin....
Nice and snug.

 Not too snug.

This is how his Leg Huggers fit him last year-
I think they were actually snugger last year, because he used to be a chunker.

Bottom line:

I like em.
They have a somewhat higher price point than their SAHM competitors, but it's a good product, well made, and I've had a lot of leggings by different companies come apart over the last year or so, and our blue army man ones are still going strong.

Want some?
Check out the Agoo Leg Huggers website, and find a pair or two that are perfect for the little one in your life.  While you're there, check out the other great active wear Agoo makes, and see how well they can outfit your kids!

Disclaimer:  I received one free pair of leggings for my toddler to wear so I could honestly review them for the purposes of this blog post. I was not compensated in any other way, though I'm sure my toddler's knees thank me.

Belated Ribbon of Achievement

I don't know how I forgot to post this at the appropriate milestone, but nonetheless, we've been a happily functioning nursing dyad for a full 18 months and then some!

It occurred to me this morning, as I was nursing a grumpy bumped his head boy, that of all the things he's been doing in life, he's been doing this nearly the longest.
When he was born, first he learned to breathe. Babies already cry in the womb, and open and close their eyes. They hear, they taste, they move, they feel. So first, he learned to breathe. Then he learned to nurse.

Nursing has been with him since minutes after birth, it calms him more swiftly than anything else, and I know that every day, unless he's sick, he nurses less and less, and soon it will taper off more, until one day it stops, but right now, I am fortunate to be able to spend milky snuggle time with my sweet little boy, who every day is more and more a little boy and less a baby. I am blessed to have him wake up four times in the night for a short nursing. I am blessed to be able to hold him, wear him, nurse him, snuggle him.  Some day, I'll be glad to get my body back, but I'll miss this.  I'll miss being able to help comfort and feed him in the way he's been doing since he was born.

Surviving the ER with a Baby

Let me begin by saying, you don't want to be in the ER with a baby. Not for the baby, not for you, not for your other kids, not for your spouse.
Generally speaking, you don't want to be in the ER, and you certainly don't want to take anyone extra with you if you can avoid it.
So first, I suggest keeping the number of someone who can watch your offspring, in case of emergency, handy.
Next, you're going to need to remember that even though the beds get clean sheets and pillow cases, the visitor chairs and floors do not get cleaned between patients and have all the germs of all the people who have used them. The nurses can't wash the soles of their shoes between patients, so the germs from the floor of the room with the coughing up blood patient get tracked onto the floor of the patient with the broken wrist. Therefore- KEEP BABY OFF THE FLOOR.
Does your kidlet like a stroller? Bring the stroller.  But also bring your most comfortable sling.  If you don't have time to grab it, call someone to have them bring it to you.  You're going to be tired as is, you certainly don't need to wear your arms out when babywearing is so much easier.

Don't put off nursing the baby because you're in a strange place.  If your wee one is nursing, take advantage of the fact that you can help calm and soothe your baby, and boost his/her immune system by nursing him.  The nurses and doctors aren't going to forget how to do their job if you're nursing, but if your wee one is hungry and screaming, they might just get distracted.
Toys.  If at all possible, only hand baby toys which can be sterilized before you leave, and if a toy hits the floor, it needs to go in a plastic bag and not be handed back to baby. Remember that bit about the floor? Nothing that touches the floor gets handed to baby. Ever.
Sippy cup hits the floor?  Bag it. Pacifier? Bag it.
Now here's where you get a break.  Most hospitals no longer have rules against cell phones in the ER.  If you've got a smart phone and an unlimited data plan, you can go to youtube.com and find great content like Celebrity Lullabies with Ricky Gervais
Don't have a smart phone with a data plan?  Do you have a MP3 player?  Baby just might be okay with listening to one of your earbuds, just remember to keep the volume down.

You can survive the ER with a baby in tow, just remember to keep baby off the floor and be prepared to be there for quite a while.
Goodluck, and may you never need this advice.
Baby enjoying the same rules applying to inpatient care rooms.

Do you have any tips on surviving the ER with a youngling?

Pink Saturday: UFO

I love to quilt. my love of quilting is deep, wide, and abiding. This is one corner of a quilt I had begun to put together for my daughter about a year and a half ago. I was trying to decide which prints belonged together in each block, and how those blocks would relate to the rest of the colors.
I would lay the would be blocks out on my bed and spend hours arranging and rearranging them. My goal was to finish before the baby was born because I knew I wouldn't have much time to quilt with a new baby. Of course, when I'm pregnant I'm scatter brained and easily tired, so the quilt never got much farther than this before Snapdragon was born.
Well, it turns out I was right. I had no time to quilt with a new baby.
The problem is the ironing. I could, for a while, put Snapdragon in his sling and spend some quality time with my sewing machine. I could even get some cutting in, but alas, an iron is just too dangerous to be using while babywearing, and if you've ever pieced a quilt block, you know that they're pretty high-maintenance in terms of ironing.
Alas, this UFO is languishing between the pages of an old IKEA catalog (see, thy are good for something) and mocking me ever so quietly whenever I walk past.

Do you have any UFOs taunting you? Better still, any advice on how to create the time to get this project done?

Pink Saturday: Love

The best Valentine, for me, is spending cuddly time with the people who mean the most to me, and some of them come in small, pink, and paisley packages.
If you haven't noticed, I LOVE babywearing.
In this case, Snapdragon and I are snuggling up in our Bohemian Bubblegum Mei Tai. I only mention the name of the Mei Tai, because I named it, and that makes me giggly happy.

Happy Valentine's Day

Pink Saturday: Babywearing Gifts!

This year I got a most amazing gift. It wasn't a Christmas gift per-se, but a gift nonetheless. See it there? The pretty pink Mei Tai keeping Snapdragon all snuggly close to Mama?
It's the Bohemian Bubblegum Dittany Baby Mei Tai, and I LOVE it. Unlike the pouch sling you usually see me wearing around, it distributes his weight evenly and there's no bizarre sense of leaning the whole time I'm wearing him. It is totally made of win. And I also like the black and white reverse for when I'm feeling less like it's Saturday.
If you haven't noticed, I'm a huge fan of the babywearing. This winter I've decided that what I like the best about it is that I get to keep my arms free so if I need to steady myself on an ice patch, I can, without worrying about dropping either Snapdragon, or the both of us.
How do you wear your baby? And if you don't have a wee one, well, I'm sorry, because they're just the sweetest and cutest and cuddle-snuggle-lovable-est, and when they're close enough to kiss, well everything seems a little bit better.

CLOSED Sleepy Wrap Review and Giveaway

This is a special moment for me. Sleepy Wrap was the very first company I worked with in this whole blog review world. We started planning this back in June, and since then I've reviewed a few things, and it's harder than it looks, but very rewarding because I get to tell you if that baby item you're considering buying really is all it's cracked up t be or if it's all just hype.
The Sleepy Wrap is most certainly all it's cracked up to be.
I had the good fortune to win a Moby Wrap this summer. I won it from babywearing.com, and after getting to know it, I realized that there'd probably be some comparison going on in this review, and so you'll have to bear with me.
Ultimately I decided I'd keep my favorite of the two and give the runner up to a mama who needed something to help her keep her baby close. Drumroll- the Moby is in the box, the Sleepy Wrap is about four feet from me.

In case you're wondering, the Sleepy Wrap is a wrap style babywearing device. It's essentially a five and a half yard long piece of stretchy fabric with surged edges which taper toward the ends. Through a simple series of steps you can secure it in a way that you can carry your baby hands free and in comfort.

The Awesome:
Sleepy Wrap evenly distributes Snapdragon's weight, so no walking lop-sided.
Great for long days of babywearing.
Sleepy Wrap maintains it's shape so I don't need to tighten it after wearing it for a while.
Sleepy Wrap doesn't require folding in half lengthwise, so it's pretty easy to put on.
Sleepy Wrap is pretty lightweight so no overheating.
Sleepy Wrap is uber-stretchy so Snapdragon gets comfortably cradled against me without putting too much pressure on his back or joints.

The Not So Awesome:
Wraps take a touch more patience to put on than pouches and ring slings. I admit, I am still more likely to reach for my pouch sling for short duration, or quick in and out babywearing.

What You Should Know:
No kids were involved in making this. Sleepy Wrap has moved it's production overseas, but are made under fair working conditions.
They're made of French Terry, a 95% cotton, 5% spandex blend.
They're a one size fits all, and as a 5'9" mama who weighs over 200 lbs (don't tell) I can honestly say it's comfy on me.
They have been tested up to 45 lbs.

Snapdragon managed to worm his arm out, but he might have had some help. He seems to enjoy being worn in it, though he tends to fall asleep in it...
Want one?

Why so quiet?

If you're wondering why I've been a little quiet lately, wonder no longer.
We've been gearing up for a babywearing event in December, which means lots of babywearing, and less time blogging.
Looking for a guide to an UnEvil Guide to Holiday Gifting? That's coming soon too.
Shameless self-promotion: I'm still looking for sponsors for both my babywearing event and my UnEvil Guide to Holiday Gifting. If you'd like to sponsor, email me!
I'm planning some great babywearing reviews, at least one giveaway, babywearing artwork, and a tutorial or two.
For my UnEvil Guide to Holiday Gifting, I'll be waxing enthusiastic about some eco-friendly, developmentally relevant, creative, non-toxic,WHAM made, US made, free trade and/or ethical options for gift giving.
So be sure to pop back by every so often. I'll be going UnEvil shortly before Thanksgiving, if all goes as planned!

International Babywearing Week:

It's international babywearing week, and I thought I'd start by listing MY reasons for babywearing, just in case you were wondering why us nutty ladies like to strap our screamin' babies and toddlers to our bodies so we don't get any no-touchy time, and can't escape our offspring.

1. When I'm wearing Snapdragon, he isn't screaming, he's generally pretty content.
2. Creepy people in public don't touch my baby when I'm wearing him, because they have to violate *my* personal space to violate his, and that's a lot more intimidating.
3. My hands are free and yet I still have complete control over where my baby is. With a stroller your hands are only free if you let go of the stroller, and I don't know about you, but that always leave me with an unpleasant feeling in the bottom of my stomach.
4. He's close enough to nuzzle and kiss.
5. I don't have to wonder where my baby is, if he's dangling from his swing, or otherwise upset if I have to get some housework done.
6. I don't have to have room in the trunk of my car for a bulky stroller.
7. I have room in the shopping cart at the grocery store for um... groceries, without balancing the "bucket" precariously where I'd rather set my milk, eggs, and bananas.
8. Snapdragon actually naps in the sling. I can't say the same for any other baby containment device.
9. I can breastfeed him discreetly and hands-free if I need to, even in public, like at my best friend's wedding when he was some 11 days old.
10. If I have a milk tastic leakage moment, it doesn't matter that my shirt is wet and spotty, because all anyone else is seeing is my lovely sling, and the cute baby in it.
11. It's really hard to run off with a baby who is tied to his mama.
12. I don't have sore arms from carrying my chunky baby like my spouse does.
13. Snapdragon visually explores his environment with more overt curiousity when he's being worn. I think he feels more secure.
14. Snapdragon isn't afraid of strangers when he's being worn.
15. Did I mention I can nuzzle and kiss on mah behbeh when I'm wearing him? Yeah. That.

What do you love about babywearing?

A Brand New Teether

Friday morning, a brand new teether came in the mail.
Rather, a Moby Wrap. Snapdragon, however, is fairly convinced it's a teether.
It's UV treated, which is kinda cool, but let me reiterate, Snapdragon thinks it's a teether.
I won it from the forums over at Babywearing, and I have to say, I squeed. I squeed a lot. I squeed like a tween who just spotted Johnny Depp. I squeed.
I also won a matching pair of babylegs (as he is so cutely sporting) and the Moby swaddling blanket.
Of course, I'm very impatient, so as soon as the package arrived, I had to tear into it and start reading the directions. They look a little intimidating the first time you pull out yard after yard of fabric with a complicated drape and wrap how-to pictorial guide, but it didn't take long and I had it secured, thank goodness. Slipping snapdragon in and out isn't too hard, but I have to say, I'm not entirely sure how breastfeeding in it is any easier than out of it. I mean, to get him in a sidewaysish position was really complicated, involved taking him out, adjusting it, and putting him back in, and I think it would have been easier to just hold him to feed him.
Of course, our first attempt at nursing in the Moby was at a Barnes and Noble, so it's not like I wasn't under any pressure to get it done right, quickly, and without making a scene.
It might have been easier if I'd been wearing a plunging v-neck instead of a t-shirt.
All in all, he sorta loves it, but mostly for it's value as a mommy hugging teething device.
So yeah, I <3 it.
Of course, this hasn't prevented me from entering this months giveaway for a hella-cool adjustable pouch sling... I figure he'll teeth on it too if he has half a chance!

Selfish Saturday

Allright, I'm informing you, all 29 of you who sometimes like to read my blog, that I'm officially starting my "selfish saturday" post, where I will list all the things that I really want to win. Some of them I really really want to win. And feel free to check back if you want to follow what I'm entering, because the list is liable to grow between now and next weekend!

FEED YOUR STASH: Tiny Bubbles, Gro Baby & a Wet Bag

I would love to win the GroBaby Shell set, Tiny Bubbles soap, and Wet Bag from the Cloth Diaper Blog. That'd be sweet. I have a Blackberry GroBaby and I LOVE it, and I'm going to be trying Tiny Bubbles soon, but I don't have a wet bag, and so this would be just great to win. I admit it, I love their Feed Your Stash Friday giveaways, even though I've never won one.

I also want to win this weeks Fluff Friday giveaway of not one, not two, but THREE Smartipants diapers. Head on over to The Cloth Diaper Whisperer to check that out.

For theLove of Baby is giving away a Diaper Daisy gift certificate. This would be just awesome to win because it would let me choose the perfect item/s to compliment our current stash, and give me a chance to enjoy the coolness that is Diaper Daisy's site. Its always especially fun to get to utilize the services of your tweeple! For Love of Baby is also hosting a Bummas coth wipes giveaway. I love the Wild Ones. That'd be awesome since we're down a few wipes after Mommy!Fail in leaving the wipes case at the doctor's office. We are going back today for a Mongoosine appointment, and I hope that they have it.

Born2Impress has a FuzziBunz giveaway going on, and I really want to try FuzziBunz. I've heard nothing but good about them, and Snapdragon is all about new experiences. They also have a giveaway for a New Native pouch sling, and I do so love wearing Snapdragon, and truth be told, the sling I made him is just a touch smaller than it should have been. I'd also like to win the Glamourmom nursing tank giveaway. It would so help me to rebuild a post baby wardrobe, which is something that I am so failing at. Mongoosine would also love it if I won the OnePearl giveaway. Really, everything isn't just about Snapdragon. Mongoosine would also love it if I won the Build-a-Bear giftcard giveaway Born2Impress is currently hosting.

Momma Molly has a Fuzzibunz giveaway going on on her blog. Did I mention that I really want to try Fuzzibunz? Or rather, that I want Snapdragon to? Well, I do.

The Mom Buzz is giving away an Urban Fluff Deluxe AIO. These are all kinds of cute, and I have my eye on the chocolate brown with lime lining, personally.

Another of my friends over at Our Life Upstate is having a giveaway for a Purple Ducks Diaper, and they're so cute! I swear, the mama behind Purple Ducks is a straight up miracle worker with diapers, and if you have a diaper dream, she's totally the one who can fulfil it.

Ever since I learned about the wonders of diaper covers and their nifty multi-use snazzitude, I have wanted to have more than just the one that taught me to love. So, I'd love to win the Thirsties Duo being given away from Diaper Style on their Facebook page.

I also am hoping to win a Smart Mom Teething Bling Necklace that my friend Jess is giving away on Monkey Toes Reviews & Giveaways.

I would be delighted to win the Mod Mom pouch sling from Barefoot Mommies.

I would also love to win Mkokopelli's Organic Moby Wrap giveaway. Can you tell I heart babywearing? Snapdragon does too, and I've never tried a wrap. I like the way they look like they would balance his weight more evenly than my pouch.

I could serioiusly use the Ah Goo Baby Plush Pad that Two of a kind, working on a full house is giving away. I like to have snapdragon sleep on a changing pad to protect the mattress, and this would be nice to have. That, and we only have a travel sized changing pad anyway, and it's just kinda tiny.

I also would love to win this giveaway for a Lil' Miss Diva dress for Mongoosine. Sometimes I think she feels left out, and she hasn't had a new dress in, gosh, I can't even remember how long its been. A year or so?

Brownies, a Recipe

Tonight (if 5:00 qualifies as night, of which I am dubious) we have been invited to a cookout (in the rain) with my spouse's friends. He volunteered that I'd bring dessert. I'm good with that, I love baking. Really truly love baking, and even more, I love all the compliments when I bake something truly delicious. I don't so much love the reaction when I oopsidentally misread the recipe and put in 1 1/2 T salt when it called for 1 1/2 t, but that only happens when I'm trying to follow a recipe and hold a conversation with my MIL.
I generally prefer baking as a solitary sport.
For tonight, I'm making brownies, and I thought I'd share the recipe complete with the steps to making them with you.
First, I like to get out my favorite cook book, "The Kitchen Wizard Modern Family Cookbook," I think its called. Sadly, its from the fifties and still uses terms like "a moderate oven" to mean 350 degrees. Then I rifle through the pages until I come to cookies. Aparently brownies are cookies. There it is, recipe number X, page, Y. I keep forgetting to bookmark it. I read the ingredients. Bakers Chocolate, Butter, Sugar, Eggs, Salt, Flour- I can handle this. Tonight I'll even make them with all the butter called for because they're for a party, and lower fat means drier, and who wants dry brownies at a party?
I turn on the oven, pull out my brownie pan, you know, the square one that makes them ooh so thick and chewy? I even pull my standmixer away from the wall. (Its the pink one, and yes, I justified the extra cost of it to my husband witht the "but its supporting breast cancer research," when despite my grandmother fighting breast cancer and the recent tumor I had removed, I really meant, OMG SQUEE!!! Its pink!) Then I go to grab my favorite Tinkerbell mug to melt the bakers chocolate in the microwave, and I hear it. Snapdragon woke up and is wailing. Great.
I go pick him up and he's trying to suck my arm. I sigh, glance back at the kitchen and settle onto my bed to feed him.
Just as he's drifting off to sleep, he startles and starts squaking. Then I hear it again, the oven telling me its done preheating.
Great. I nurse him back to a nice milk drunk state and gently lay him down while I put on my pouch sling, then I roll him up and carefully slip him into it. He fusses, then settles into it.
However much I'd like to stay still and stare at his cute content cuddliness, time and natural gas are a burning.
Back to the kitchen.
I glance through the recipe again and then go to find the baker's chocolate. I pull it out and glance at the recipe on the back of the box and remember it makes a bigger batch. Hmmmm...
I start pulling the appropriate ingredients out. It calls for two cups sugar. I don't have two cups of white sugar. Shrugging and patting my slingarific Snapdragon, I pull the brown sugar out, opting for a xup of each. I considered using my turbinado sugar for all of it, but I'm selfishly hoarding that. So 50/50 it is.
The recipe I'm now using calls for 1 1/2 cups of butter, and that I cannot do. Bear in mind I've been cooking low-fat fairly strictly for years now. So I decide that 1 cup of butter is enough.
I think I only read recipes to make sure I have a basic idea about how they're made. A guideline more than directions. Aren't you glad I'm not in charge of anything life or death?
So half of my less-than-called-for butter goes into the tinkerbell cup along with my four squares of baker's chocolate (3 unsweetened, 1 semi-sweet, just because I'm in the mood to be contrary at this point) and straight into the evil box of doom, er, I mean the microwave to melt. The other half goes in the mixing bowl with the sugar and the creaming commences. I add the vanilla, and then, because I'm already being contrary, I add a bit of butter flavor and almond extract. I pull the eggs out of the fridge and notice that somebody is gerring a touch discontent. I crack them and drop them into the bowl as it mixes on low. One- he sounds upset. Two, he's squirming. Three- he's screaming like the world's about to end. (Perhaps out of fear that we are heading toward brownie fail?) Snapdragon is not happy.
I sigh and notice that I'm not all that comfy either with the growing wetspot from him outsoaking his diaper, and flip the lever to turn off the mixer, rushing into my bedroom to change his fluffy.
Purple fluffy off, bottom wiped, bew fluffy on. He's still crying so I reluctantly sit back down and nurse him a little more. Don't get me wrong, I love nursing him, but sometimes there ae things that need doing.
As he drifts off to quasi-sleep land, I set him in the lamby swing and make a mad tiptoe back to the kitchen, only to find that I've nearly got a meringue going because I flipped the wtong switch, unlocking the top and not turning it off.
Brilliant. I pull the melted chocolate out, pour it in, and make sure its mixing in on low. Then I go to get the flour. My regular flour bin is empty, so I go to open the bag of flour my SIL gave me when she recently moved. Uhoh, there's something in it. Something small and dark. I grab a spoon, I hold my breath, I pick it up, all the while ready to throw the towel in and skip bringing dessert alltogether with nightmares of a pantry infested with tiny creepy crawlies flashing before my eyes. Thank gods it is just a not well ground piece of grain. So I pour the rest of the bag of flour into the canister I regularly use to keep flour in and bugs out.
Measure the flour and add it to my well overbeaten mixture.
Things are almost looking hopeful. Moments later I'm rubbing oliveoil into my baking dish and then scooping the batter up with a spatula and smoothing it into the pan. It doesn't pour because I whipped waaay too much air into it.
I pop babyboy in his bouncy seat, pop the brownies in the oven, sigh at the mess I am, set the timer, and head straight for the shower.
Of course, Snapdragon is awake and squaking soon enough, but at least I was clean.
Another demand nursing later the timer goes off and I pull the brownies out.
This evening I found out that despite being whipped to the point the batter won't pour, mthey were truly quite good, if a touch on the complicated side to make.

Babywearing is Love

Babywearing is Love.
It is sweetbaby held over my heart, a kiss away.
It is him so close he feels like he never left me, even though my skin's between us now.
It is private glances exchanged with trust filled eyes that have not worried or feared abandonment.
It is knowing that mama is there, only another layer of fabric away.
It is warmth.
It is cuddles although mama has things to do.
It is security.
It is peace of mind.
It is milky smiles without prying eyes.
It is nursing in the park without covering up.
It is hands free to hold baby or do the things baby needs, still with all the closeness of a hug.
Babywearing is love.

It is knowing he's safe because I can feel him.
It is reassurance.
Its silent joy that I am with him.
Its secret pride that he's content.
It is intuitively knowing the other's disposition because it is tactile, our body language not so visible, but communicated across our skin.
Its soothing swaying when he's weary.
It is a better view when he's awake.
It is protecting him from passersby.
It is protecting me from absent grief.
Its little fingers in my hair.
It is dozing forheads gently kissed in line at the post office.
It is doing what I have to do without giving up what I need to do.
Babywearing is love.
