I recently found out about Nestle's WHO code non-compliance (checkout babymilkaction.org if you haven't heard yet) as well as their unethical Mugabe supporting milk buying and child slave-labor produced cocoa buying, and so I made the mistake of going through my house to see which Nestle products I currently use, and now I am faced with the difficult task of figuring out what they'll be replaced with.
Can you help me?
I need non-evil and yummy (when aplicable) alternatives to the following products.
Strawberry Nes-Quik
Ovaltine (malt)
Carnation instant breakfast (strawberry and vanilla)
Tidy Cat liter
That's all I can think of at the moment, but seriously, I need help here.
Suggestions?
(I will try to include links to all the Nestle fail I mention in the first paragraph when I am at a real computer)

There is no comparison to Ovaltine....Hershey's cocoa powder I guess, but it just isn't the same. Ovaltine is what we are having a really hard time boycotting!
As for the Tidy Cat you can try the Arm & Hammer stuff, but I have heard that if you change a cat's litter they might not recognize it, so introduce it slowly, mixing it in with your current litter.
Good luck!
I second changing litter slowly, it will save your floors.
I only buy Ovaltine from them and am also looking for an alternative.
Oh, Arm & Hammer essentials is amazing! We use it and can't live without it.
Strawberry Nes-Quick - we buy the store brand of the stuff. Kids say it's good.
Ovaltine - we don't buy can't say I've ever had the stuff.
The Instant Breakfast stuff - no ideas there either as I don't buy. I did buy when I was pg as it was "supposed" to help with morning sickness...never did.
(((Hugs))) We've converted out cats to doing their business outside, no more need for kittie litter! When we did use it I was very fond of Fresh Step. I also recommend changing slowly & looking for a replacement litter that is similar in consistency to your current brand. My cats preferred the fine sand type & refused to use the box when we accidently bought the large pebble type.
We have bought the liquid strawberry syrup in store brand & my kids really like it, no guarantee that it isn't secretly made by Nestle though. Can't help you on the Ovaltine, I bought some for my older boys when they were little (like 2 & 4, maybe?) & we still had most of the bottle when the oldest was in 4th grade, so we used it for the dirt on his California mission project. I'd check the generics at your grocery store....they probably have a generic version of Malt.....I know I've seen store brand instant breakfast packets & powder.
NOOOO!!!!! NOT MY DELICIOUS CHOCOLATEY OVALTINE!!!!!! KHAAAAAAANNNNN!!!!!
*cleansing breath*
I am... devastated. Absolutely and completely devastated. I literally almost started crying when I read that. I am still teetering on the edge of it. What am I going to do?? I am lost.
I'm going to bed. This is awful. Just awful.
Hersheys makes a strawberry syrup that makes good strawberry milk. And I really like Fresh Step Cat Litter. I cannot help with the others.
I started boycotting Nestle years ago when all their ethical ills started surfacing. Over the years, they've acquired so many new companies that it's hard to keep track of what's a Nestle product. We don't buy many store bought items anyway but when we received WIC, one of the few approved juices was Libby's Juicy Juice - now a Nestle company. Such a bummer.I never had to use WIC for formula but between juice & formula, it's sad a gov't health program has to support Nestle.
For the most part, you can't go wrong w/ hershey's. The hershey company has been accused of child labor at some points but looking into the company, I found that on their sugar and cocoa plantations, they make sure all their workers & their families have health care (better than US citizens) and access to free, quality education. They also have an amazing program that gives children who would otherwise be a statistic in foster care a stable home setting and excellent education: http://www.mhs-pa.org/about/mhs-mission-vision/
