Gardening with Children

It's almost that time of year again, but we're doing an experiment and pretending that it is that time of year again. The ground is warm, the sun is shining, and if we waste a few seeds under little plastic mini-greenhouses, it's okay, because the Jabber Walky is excited about planting his very own garden. Today we're planting sunflower seeds so he can grow vines up them this summer. I'm leaning toward runner beans.
We built his first raised bed garden out of a 16x20" produce crate, which we've lined with newspaper. I didn't bother google-ing "how to build a raised bed for a toddler," when my requirements were so straight forward. Something small, something deep enough for him to dig in. Not too complicated, right? I'd originally planned to make it bigger, but this is a good start.
We'll keep you posted.
