Fall Skies

Just a week ago it was summer. The air was warm and the bees buzzed by. But somehow, that's all gone now. The skies go from clear to somber and angsty without warning, the bright petals of the bee balm have drooped and fallen, and only a few hardy yellow flowering plants seem to be clinging to their vitality.
On my back porch, the tardy tomatoes are wasting on stems which will not support their growth in this weather.
Leaves are falling and my toddler has learned, now that it is too cold to reasonably do so, about jumping in puddles.
This is the season for baking to warm the home, the season for scarves and layers.
This is my season.
