Go to Bed

While I was out in my garden today, I noticed something disquieting. It is January 18th in zone 5, and my little baby rose bush hasn't figured out that it's supposed to be dormant and instead is setting new leaves.

Silly baby rose bush doesn't want to go to sleep.

Am I the only one whose plants never went dormant or picked an unfortunate time to wake up? How do I keep the upcoming hard freeze from damaging these mid-winter wakers?
